Endri Shabani has been elected the new Ombudsman.
Despite the debates and clashes between the majority and the opposition, the Socialists put all the candidacies to the vote at the end of the marathon session.
In the end, the one who gained the confidence of the socialists was the former head of the Nisma Thurje. He was elected with 85 votes in favor and 3 against. The opposition boycotted the process, having previously withdrawn from the signatures.
Endri Shabani was born on February 8, 1985. Shabani attended high school at the Harry Fultz Institute and graduated in law from Luarasi University in Tirana. Then, in 2013, he continued his master's degree in law at the University of Oxford (Pembroke College) in the United Kingdom.
In 2014, Shabani won the prestigious Clarendon Scholarship for doctoral studies in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Oxford, which he completed in 2020.
Shabani holds a doctorate in political science from Oxford University (St Antony's College).
From 2007 to 2011, Shabani worked as a project manager for Transparency International Albania. He then spent about a year as a consultant for the Council of Europe on an anti-corruption project in Albania.
From 2011-2013 he worked as a lecturer at Luarasi University.
In 2015, he worked for several months as a program manager for the Open Society Foundation Albania. In 2017, he was a consultant for the United Nations Organization (UN Women) for Albania.
From 2018-2019 he worked as a researcher and briefly as a lecturer at Sciences Po University in Paris.
He is currently a councilor in the Tirana Municipal Council, having led the Weaving Initiative for many years. After the last elections, he left its leadership.
