The development of a data center in Albania is being planned, but its role is not yet known, while among the delegation accompanying the President of the United Arab Emirates was Edge Group, one of the fastest growing military technology companies in the world...
Two days ago, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, visited Albania. Prime Minister Edi Rama echoed his visit, considering him a rare friend and great benefactor of Albania. Rama even said that Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has more than once stood by the Albanian people in extremely difficult days.
But part of the delegation led by the President of the United Arab Emirates was also Khaldoon Al Mubarak, who owns Mubadala Investment Company, considered one of the key companies in the global financial world.
In fact, Al Mubarak's name was not mentioned at all by the Prime Minister and everything was treated as an official visit by the President of the United Arab Emirates to Tirana, who after staying for a few hours, traveled to Budapest.
But what was the purpose of the visit of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and the boss of Mubadala Investment Company to Tirana, what was discussed, what was agreed upon, and which projects can be implemented?
Officially, not a single word has been reported from Tirana, and even if we refer to Edi Rama's speech, it seems that the high-level delegation came to Tirana for a courtesy visit.
In fact, Mubadala controls billions of dollars in assets and holds strategic investments in technology, energy, healthcare, tourism, and infrastructure across the globe.
If we make a connection between the visit to Tirana and the one in Budapest, a little more light can be shed on what the group of Arab businessmen, including Mubadala Investment Company, may be aiming for.
In Hungary, two of the most prominent companies in the United Arab Emirates, the telecommunications and technology group e& and the sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Company signed a preliminary cooperation agreement with the 4iG group, which in Albania owns the mobile phone company 'One Albania'.
According to information reported by international media, 4iG's space unit, 4iG SDRT, has signed three preliminary defense agreements with EDGE Group, one of the fastest-growing military technology firms in the world.
The agreements, announced during the official visit of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to Budapest, are designed to foster joint initiatives in digital infrastructure, telecommunications and strategic investments, with a particular focus on the CEE and MENA regions, along with the Western Balkans.

4iG and e& have agreed to explore joint submarine data cable projects that would improve digital connectivity between Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
The partners are also planning the joint development of a data center in Albania, as well as targeting further ventures in digital infrastructure in Hungary, including projects with PPF Telecom.
But what role will this data center play in Albania? This is not yet known, but it could be one of the issues that the delegation from the United Arab Emirates previously discussed with Prime Minister Rama in Tirana.
Referring to what is being reported by international media, 4iG's CEO, Gellert Jászai, emphasized that this partnership with key technology and investment players in the United Arab Emirates supports 4iG's growth strategy domestically and internationally. "The agreements open new doors for 4iG in key regional markets and connect us to global innovation hubs," he added.
e&'s Executive Director, Hatem Dowidar, called the agreement "an important step in advancing interregional digital infrastructure," noting that robust and scalable infrastructure is essential for innovation and economic sustainability.

Mubadala, which manages a portfolio exceeding $330 billion across various sectors, including space, digital infrastructure and advanced technologies, has agreed to explore joint investment, mergers and acquisitions and capital market opportunities with 4iG, primarily in Hungary and the Western Balkans.
4iG's space unit, 4iG SDT, in a separate statement, announced that it has signed three key agreements with EDGE Group to co-develop and localize advanced defense technologies, including air defense systems (Skynight), mobile munitions (Shasow), and drone traffic management platforms (Vega, Orion).
It is further emphasized that the partnership aims to provide NATO-compatible solutions for European and African markets and includes plans for joint research and development, production and possible joint ventures.
It now remains to be seen what the interests of the two UAE companies in Albania will be and how much they will be involved in the telecommunications market or beyond, referring to the agreement with the company that owns One Albania. /Pamphlet/
