On May 23, members of the Democratic Party were called to what is considered a referendum to reconfirm Sali Berisha as the leader of the largest opposition party. In a press conference, Berisha expressed optimism about the process, stressing that the membership, through the “one member, one vote” principle, will decide in a transparent manner on the election of the DP leader.
" This process, I must clarify, which was discussed by the evil in the most unrestrained way, marks the most democratic form, the most democratic process of electing a party leader. But, of course, the presence of candidates is something very welcome in this process. But the truth is that in 75 percent of cases when the president is in the race, unfortunately, the others do not enter the race. Why do they not enter the race? Not that they cannot enter the race, they can enter completely, but because they do not want to engage in a race whose outcome is not certain. And this is not only in Albania, this is in Europe and in the world. This is the statistics of this type of race ," said Berisha.
He further emphasized that most political parties in the world do not elect the president with 'one member, one vote', they elect him with forums, they even elect him with acclamation, with applause and it is taken as the equivalent of a vote.
