Despite the efforts to have a common candidate, the opposition will most likely appear divided again in the Kukës Municipality elections.
The Re-establishment group chose their candidate Emri Vata through the primaries as the representative of the Berisha group in the race with the SP candidate, Albert Halilajt.
Meanwhile, the official Democratic Party is expected to make a decision whether or not there will be candidates on Wednesday, August 30, where it has called the leadership of the Democratic Party.
Arif Rexhmati, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Vula in the Kukës branch, is the most talked about name as a potential candidate of Basha's group. He refused to participate in the Democrats' internal race for Kukës to produce a universally accepted candidate. Dissatisfaction was also shown by the participation in the primaries of Berisha, where out of about 2200 members who were called in the election process, only 678 Democrats from Kukës voted, where Emri Vata was elected with a majority of votes, 274 of them, as the candidate for the mayor of Kukës.
On the other hand, the official Democratic Party has until September 1 to register with the CEC as an electoral subject in the race, and until September 8 is the deadline for political candidates.
While the Socialist Party is trying to recover from the fall brought by the scandal of the newly appointed president from the May 14 elections. After the blow he had with Safet Gjicin, through the polls he chose the figure most appreciated by the residents of Kukës, the economist Albert Halilaj, who since July of this year holds the position of prefect of the area.
September 24 will be the decisive date, set by the president for the new elections in Kukës, to show who among them will grab the throne of this municipality.
