The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, denied today news that there was a phone call between him and Minister Taulant Balla regarding the approval of the European integration resolution in the Assembly.
Through a harsh public reaction, Bardhi accused Top Channel of disinformation and propaganda in favor of the government, while rejecting claims that the agreement to vote on the resolution was reached through secret contacts with the majority.
" There was no phone call between me and Taulant Balla about the European integration resolution, as Top Channel misinforms. Taulant Balla doesn't dare to call me on the phone in the morning, let alone dare to call me on the phone at midnight ," writes Bardhi.
The reaction of the head of the DP group comes after the Assembly approved with 114 votes in favor the resolution on European integration, in one of the rare cases when the opposition and the majority united their votes.
Bardhi emphasized that the DP's support for European integration does not require "secret phone calls" and that the opposition's stance has been public and institutional.
" Support for Albania's European integration does not need secret phone calls or television propaganda. Every stance of the opposition is public, institutional and in function of the country's European interest, not the interests of the government ," he declared.
According to Bardhi, the fact that the majority accepted about 90% of the opposition's amendments to the resolution shows that the government has been forced to give ground in the face of the DP's demands.
" Approving about 90% of the opposition's amendments to this resolution is the minimum the majority can do, given the conditions when it is delaying European integration by defending government corruption and rejecting the standards required by the European Union ," said Bardhi.
In his reaction, he also directly attacked Top Channel, describing the television as a "media shield for the government" and corrupt affairs.
" Unfortunately, Top Channel has long since become a media shield for the government and its corrupt affairs. It is no coincidence that in two of the most sensational corruption files, starring Belinda Balluku and Ergys Agas, the television behaves more like an advocate for the government than like a media outlet seeking the truth ," declared Bardhi.
At the end of the reaction, the head of the DP parliamentary group emphasized that the opposition will continue to support Albania's European integration, but warned that it will not remain silent in the face of the Rama government's corruption.
