GJKKO refused the release of Fredi Beleri, the former chairman of the CEC: Goro

The former chairman of the CEC, Kristaq Kume, has spoken about the refusal of GJKKO to release Fredi Beleri from prison and to take the oath before the municipal council.

In an interview for 'Report TV', Kume states that Beler's mandate is only terminated if the court convicts him, and until that time Jorgo Goro, who was in this position until the May 14 elections, will exercise his duties.

"As long as Mr. Beleri's problem is not resolved, Mr. Goro will exercise the duties of the mayor. There are no time limits, if the oath is taken within such time he does not exercise his duty. I've heard it as a legal argument that he's cut off if he doesn't take the oath within a few months, but we're not in that case. The law on local self-government foresees such a situation in those cases when the mayor is in office, but in the case of Beler, he has not started his office yet," said the former CEC president.

Asked how long Mr. Goro can be in office, the former chairman of the CEC says that Goro will remain in office until the Beler problem is resolved.

"Mr. Goro will continue to be in office until Mr. Beleri's problem is resolved. Which means that if the court had taken into account Mr. Beleri's request and he was under oath tomorrow, then there is a possibility to make a provision. In this case, the path is opened to reactivate such a thing to terminate his mandate, but as it is, they cannot do anything. Only after the judiciary decides whatever happens to Mr. Beleri, will things change", says Kume.
