Democratic MPs are so 'hypnotized' by Berisha's absolute power over the DP that they do not see any candidate who could rival him. One of them is Luan Baçi, who states that the lack of candidates facing Sali Berisha in the race for the leadership of the DP constitutes a normal situation for the party.
In an interview on the "Afternoon Diary" show on A2CNN, Baçi said that the election of the president is done by vote of the membership and that each member has the opportunity to express his will in the process.
According to him, Berisha remains the strongest political figure within the DP and there are no names that can realistically compete with him. Baçi said that the people who have sought to enter the race, in his opinion, have done so more for public attention than with a serious intention of winning the party leadership.
The Democratic MP added that, from what he sees in the DP structures, the parliamentary group and the Chairman, there is no figure who can rival Berisha. He argued that this is also related to the fact that, according to him, Berisha's leadership has provided strong political evidence over the years.
"The entire membership votes to elect the chairman, so the options are there, to vote yes or no, and no one prevents the membership from expressing their will. Not having a candidate in the race is normal, I call it more than normal, when Sali Berisha, the historical leader, undisputed, uncompetitive, is running, in my opinion, there was no one to come out. All those who have applied, I'm sorry to say, they have simply made more news, to be public for 2-3 or 5 hours in the media, than to take seriously the fact that they could run and compete with Sali Berisha. I don't discriminate against anyone and I speak in general about every candidate who has applied, but let me say what I see in the DP, in the parliamentary group, in the Presidency, no one is worthy in the sense of being a competitor against Berisha. They know that they can't win against Berisha and they don't come out, because they know that they can't win. There is no problem, it's a "The normality of a party like the DP, especially when the historical leader is at the helm, who has shown with evidence and facts that his leadership is unrivaled ," said the DP MP.
