Attack near the Albanian ambassador in Kiev, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Verbal

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has summoned today the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Tirana, Alexey Zaitsev, following the massive attacks launched by Russia overnight in Ukraine, which also hit the residential complex where the Albanian Ambassador to Kiev, Ernal Fino, resides.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alteo Hysi, announced that the Albanian side has expressed strong protest against the incident, calling the violation of the security of Albanian diplomatic staff in Ukraine unacceptable.

According to the official statement, during the meeting with the Russian ambassador, it was emphasized that missile and drone attacks have seriously endangered the life and safety of the Albanian ambassador in Kiev.

The Albanian ministry stated that the event constitutes a violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international obligations that guarantee the protection and inviolability of diplomats.

Also, a verbal note was delivered to the Russian ambassador, through which the Albanian authorities requested that Moscow respect international norms and guarantee the safety of diplomatic personnel accredited in conflict zones.

The latest Russian attacks on Kiev are among the most severe in recent weeks and have caused damage to several areas of the Ukrainian capital, including the complex where the Albanian ambassador lives.

"The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs summoned today the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Tirana, Alexey Zaitsev, to convey the strong protest following the massive attacks overnight with drones and missiles, during which the residential complex where the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania in Ukraine resides was hit.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the attacks had seriously violated the security and life of the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania. This incident is unacceptable and completely contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and other international obligations that guarantee the inviolability in all circumstances of the security and dignity of accredited diplomatic staff.

"The Russian ambassador was handed a verbal note and asked to convey the Albanian side's call to respect international norms to the authorities of his country," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alteo Hysi told "Report TV".
