The Mayor of Lezha, Pjerin Ndreu, has reacted after the violence against Sokol Toma, 53 years old, former director of Urban Planning in the municipality and former chairman of the Democratic Party in Lezha.
Ndreu described the event as unacceptable and announced that he has asked local police leaders to work to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Sokol Toma was attacked the day before, while he was traveling by car from Tirana to Lezha. Masked individuals approached him on the Laç-Mamurras highway, near the Sandzhak intersection, and raped him.
He is in the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, with injuries to both legs and one ear.
In his reaction, Ndreu rejected the widespread information about ear cutting, calling it speculation that creates misinformation.
Toma previously held positions in the Municipality of Lezha. He was convicted by the Criminal Court of Kosovo together with former mayor Fran Frrokaj for the issue of alienation of properties on the coast.
Ndreu said that violence violates the security of citizens and demanded that the perpetrators of the incident be identified as soon as possible.
Pjerin Ndreu: Ugly acts of violence are negative signals that harm and pollute our society. I strongly condemn the serious incident that occurred against a member of the Lezghian community.
Whoever thought up, organized or carried out this act should know that the law, sooner or later, will find you and hold you accountable. Even more unacceptable are the media banalities and speculations about "ear cutting", which only increase anxiety and misinform public opinion.
I have asked local police leaders to do their utmost to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice as soon as possible.
Lezha cannot and will never agree with violence, fear and criminal acts that violate the security of our citizens. Anyone who uses violent language should stop and reflect because the Lezha community has nothing to do with the banal behavior of pressure and violence that appear from time to time!
