The former deputy of the Democratic Party, Azgan Haklaj, recalled January 2001 when he was arrested and then released.
Haklaj says that at that time they protested his arrest while adding that DASH, OSCE-ODIHR called it a brutal and political arrest.

The member of the Assembly has the same immunity as the member of the Supreme Constitutional Court and every judge. I did not evade justice, I was arrested in Tropoja in my apartment, I was elected deputy... The Supreme Court released me from prison on July 24, 2001. It was the request of my lawyers because I had the same immunity as the judge who ordered my arrest. Then in 2002 I went to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the case for lack of evidence.
The elected mayor, Beleri, does not have immunity. He can be detained and arrested. Mediu was a deputy minister, he resigned and the prosecution requested the removal of his immunity. Then Mediu was re-elected deputy. I have seen the opinion of the minority and the majority. Although the MP was elected, the previous decision remains in force.
