Tomorrow, the successor of Anatsas Janullatos as head of the Albanian Orthodox Church will be officially established. Four are the main contenders to take the place of the Greek, who in all likelihood has entered the ecumenical canonization procedures. There are seven high priests of the KOAKSH who will choose between these persons: Fatmir Abedin Pelushi (Metropolitan of Korça, Joani), Artan Lutfi Merdani (Metropolitan of Elbasan, Andoni), Adrian Pelivan Hyka (Metropolitan of Fier, Nikolla), Enkeled Gjolek Mamaj (Bishop of Kruja, Anastasi).
Meanwhile, the two rivals who will likely share the 7 votes are Joan of Korça and Anastasius of Kruja. Both are very close collaborators with Janullatos. Joan has been an old collaborator of the late archbishop for 33 years, but has never approached the center, leading the metropolis of Korça. Meanwhile, the other contender Anastasius of Kruja, is de facto also the leader of the Metropolis of Tirana, the ecumenical throne of Janullatos.
There are three others in the Holy Synod; two Greeks and one Albanian. The Metropolitan of Berat, Asti Balkallbashi, is considered out of the game, also as a result of serious health problems, which, as is known, have weighed on his mind. It is even said that they have often secretly brought psychiatrists from Greece to calm him down. While the two Greeks have been excluded from the race. Janullatos, but also the authorities of the Greek church have decided that there will no longer be a Greek at the head of the Church, as it would provoke a situation of constant clashes and conflict.
At least, from the nationality point of view, it has been decided that the head of the church should be Albanian, so that no one will ask for a retake of KOAKSH. But even though they are Albanians, all these candidates are nothing more than clerics created by the mind and hand of Janullatos. In fact, one of the main contenders has jumped into his career with only 4 years of being ordained as a priest.
But what is striking is that all 4 candidates for the head of the church are Muslims by birth, they were converted and baptized in their adulthood. This is a strange situation, since although the fact of changing religion is a well-known thing in all religions, a person with a pure religious origin is generally elected to head the institutions. And in Albania there is no shortage of Orthodox clergy who come from family tradition and more in this field. Especially in villages and areas, where there has been a good organization of religious organizations. But Janullatos has never approached people who come from the Albanian Orthodox tradition to the clerical organizations.
It seems clear that the intention has been not to give this church the old tradition of its fathers and disciples, but to offer converted Muslims whom it has elevated to the top. But will true believers believe that these clerics who have changed their ways are truly dedicated to leading the church?
The goal seems to be elsewhere, to bring as many converts as possible as a main lobby in the church, in order to increase the number of the Orthodox army, which from all records appears to be quite reduced. /Pamphlet
