"We need strong controlling institutions, not usurping ones", Tabaku:

DP MP Jorida Tabaku spoke about the Albanian government's decision to create the Local Government Academy, a joint structure with Municipalities for employee training.

Tabaku stated that local government is being treated as a directorate under Minister Arbjan Mazniku, while emphasizing that there is no longer a clear division of local government.

" Albania urgently needs a division of responsibilities and functions and strong institutions that check each other, not usurp each other, " she said as a guest on the "This Week" show on News24.

Tabaku: I have watched the recent developments with great concern. And something important and sacred is the balance of powers and control that must exist in a healthy democratic system. Today, the concept of local government has been lost. You no longer have local government independent of the central government.

A training institute that will be led by the Minister of State, who has given all municipalities an organizational structure and has said that you will be organized like this, as if they were his subordinate directors. They have limited funds to the maximum, they have cut back on all activities, they have removed responsibility. Since 2015, Albania needed a territorial reform that affected municipalities and regions, but with responsibility, which never came.

Albania urgently needs a division of responsibilities and functions and strong institutions that check each other, not usurp each other.
