The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, participated today in the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly for the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.
During his speech, the President of the Republic called for using the time remaining until 2030 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Head of State noted that despite the joint commitment to implementing the Beijing Platform for Action, established at the historic 1995 conference, progress in gender equality is stagnant and in some areas is regressing.
" This meeting should serve as a turning point, moving from rhetoric to action. We must mobilize sufficient financial resources, strengthen accountability frameworks, and invest in measurable and transformative actions ," emphasized the President of the Republic as he shared Albania's experience with world leaders.
President Begaj listed the legal, institutional and social reforms undertaken by Albania for gender equality, increasing the budget and funds, and strengthening the role of girls and women in important decision-making.
The Head of State emphasized that these reforms undertaken have made gender equality an important aspect of Albanian society.
Considering gender equality as a key factor for sustainable development, social cohesion and shared prosperity, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the position that " Albania is committed to two priority actions under the Beijing+30 Agenda for Action: first to intensify efforts to eliminate violence against women and second to expand the implementation of gender-responsive budgeting" .
This year's General Assembly Summit on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women focused on reaffirming commitment, securing resources, and accelerating the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, with the aim of jointly reflecting on progress and ongoing challenges in advancing gender equality worldwide.
