The head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has spoken about the decision to remove the immunity of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and paves the way for SPAK to arrest him.
In a statement to the media, Meta states that the authorization to arrest Berisha is part of the SP's program to eliminate the opposition.
Meta said that the SP is acting with two standards, while he called the changes in the Assembly's regulations anti-constitutional, which provides for an exemption of up to 2 months for deputies who light cigarettes in the assembly.
"Today's vote marks the escalation of efforts to annihilate the opposition, an unconstitutional decision that seeks to turn back the time of the state party.
It is part of a program for the elimination of the opposition and the installation of a facade opposition that does fresh and services to this regime, and you know that only a few days ago the rules of the Assembly were unilaterally changed. It is an unconstitutional act aimed at destroying parliamentarism.
These changes turn the regulation into an arbitrary tool in the hands of the majority to punish opposition MPs and eliminate representation in parliament.
Even the changes that were made in the law on the organization of Investigative Commissions aim to undermine accountability and transparency", said Meta.
