The Assembly of Albania voted today with 75 votes to remove the immunity of deputy Sali Berisha, paving the way for the arrest of the former prime minister following the request of SPAK.
But what is the procedure followed after voting in the Assembly?
A courier of the Assembly appears in SPAK and submits the decision taken by the legislative power in today's plenary session (December 21). After the SPAK is officially notified and becomes familiar with the relationship of the Assembly, it addresses the Special Court, specifically Judge Irena Gjoka, to request the replacement of the security measure from compulsory presentation and blocking of passports, to prison arrest or house arrest.
After the court's decision, BKH agents and the state police execute the decision to arrest Berisha.
The majority voted with 75 votes for SPAK's request to tighten the security measure against former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
The session lasted only 10 minutes, where the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha refused to speak when the Speaker of the Assembly gave him the floor, after asking to remove the Guard.
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha reacted after the decision of the Assembly, which removed the MP's immunity, responding to SPAK's request for his arrest.
He said that the vote of the Assembly to remove his immunity will mobilize the opposition to the highest degree against the government.
"Today, the narco-parliament, in an unconstitutional act, voted against the constitutional and legal procedure for the removal of immunity and my arrest. In one way or another, Parliament today continued the work that failed on September 9, 2 years ago, but if it failed on September 9, I guarantee that today it will be more failed than ever. That this decision will not be able to achieve the goal of destroying the opposition, but will mobilize us to the highest degree and under the motto "today or never" will give the answer to this regime. The clandestine parliament ended up in the "rat hole" parliament. Edi Rama entered today through the open tunnels that connect the parliament with the office of Skënder Gjinushi. The battle continues stronger than ever before ," said Berisha.
