The Assembly of Albania held a special session for the President of Croatia, Zoran Milanovic, who has come to Albania as part of an official visit.
Earlier, Milanovic held a meeting with President Bajram Begaj, who held a joint press conference.
In today's session, he said that Albania and Croatia share many historical ties between them, while expressing thanks for the reception.
In his speech to the Assembly, Milatovic said that the relations between the two countries are better than ever and that Croatia will continue to support Albania on its path to EU integration.
Milatovic also said that he congratulates Albania for the great progress and hopes that this progress will be appreciated by Brussels and the EU institutions.
"I have the honor to be here today in Tirana on the occasion of my state visit.
Thank you for your warm hospitality in your wonderful country. Our two friendly and allied countries share cultural, historical, geographical and political ties. Our friendship goes back a long way and the close relationship was confirmed when it was most needed during the defense of the war for independence in Croatia. Many Albanians got involved at that time and for that we are very grateful. Albanian minorities in our country are very active, they are a bridge between us, they are an excellent example of how a minority can serve as a bridge between two countries.
Croatia and Albania have strengthened their relations much more than ever. We are also connected by the alliance in NATO, our relationship is excellent. This cooperation is interconnected in the field, especially economic because the commercial exchange has increased by 60%. I am glad that we have Albanian tourists.
Of course, recognizing Kosovo is one of the things we say the most. In bilateral and multilateral forums, we consider it unfair and unstable that Albania became a member of NATO in 2009 and since then they are far behind regarding the process of Albania's membership in the EU.
I congratulate Albania for the great progress and hope that this progress will be appreciated. "Croatia will continue to strongly support Albania in EU integration, both politically and technically ," Milanovic said.
