This Monday's plenary session began with a minute of silence in honor of two children who tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Durrës, an event that has shocked public opinion and brought attention back to road safety in residential areas.
The accident occurred the day before, at around 2:20 p.m., in neighborhood no. 15 of the coastal city, known as the former Këneta. According to preliminary information, three children were playing on the sidewalk when a “Benz ML” vehicle, suspected of being traveling at high speed, lost control and hit them.
The collision resulted in fatal injuries to two of them, Eneo Muca, 12, and Klersi Nikolli, 10, who died at the scene. Another minor was injured and is receiving treatment at the Trauma Hospital in Tirana, while his medical condition has not yet been made public in detail.
According to preliminary investigation data, one of the children was run over by the vehicle, which indicates the intensity of the collision. After the accident, the vehicle also collided with another vehicle parked in the area.
The driver of the vehicle, 57-year-old Nikoll Radaçi, has been arrested by police and is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances and determine legal responsibilities.
The incident takes on an even more serious dimension due to the family circumstances of one of the victims. Klersi Nikolli lived without her parents, who were in Italy, where her father was being treated for a serious illness.
