The chairman of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has called for participation in the national protest on May 8, linking it to the demand for improved economic conditions and more effective governance.
He estimates that Albania has lagged behind regional countries in terms of wage growth in recent years. According to the data he cites, even in 2025 the average gross monthly wage in the country will reach around 860 euros, while in neighboring countries the level is significantly higher.
Bardhi lists that in Serbia the average salary is around 1290 euros, in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1245 euros, in Montenegro 1206 euros and in North Macedonia around 1100 euros. He emphasizes that the difference varies from 30 to 50 percent to Albania's disadvantage.
In his response, he also touched on the cost of living, emphasizing that prices for food and basic products remain high compared to the region, while incomes are among the lowest. According to him, this situation has increased cases when citizens travel abroad to buy cheaper products and fuel.
Bardhi considers the economy to be a key factor in the demand for political change and accuses the government of lack of accountability and corruption. He calls on citizens to participate in the announced protest, linking it to the demand for improved economic conditions and more effective governance.
" For at least three years, Albania has been successfully losing the regional race for wage increases.
Even in 2025, the average gross monthly salary received by employees in Serbia (1290 euros), Bosnia and Herzegovina (1245 euros), Montenegro (1206 euros), and North Macedonia (1100 euros) was 30-50% higher than in Albania (860 euros).
Citizens face the most expensive food in the region, while continuing to have among the lowest incomes. This is encouraging many Albanians to engage in regional tourism for shopping, both for oil and for food and other vital products.
The economy is the main reason why Albanians should demand the removal of this corrupt government.
"On May 8, all together, in a national protest, for a responsible government at the service of citizens and free from corruption, which guarantees more welfare, a better economy, higher wages and lower prices ," says Bardhi.
