Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha clashed with opposition MPs in his report to the Foreign Affairs Committee, where he spoke about EU membership negotiations, the IBAR report, but also the debate caused by a joint editorial by Prime Minister Rama and Serbian President Vučić in the German media.
During the debate, Democratic MP Belind Këlliçi asked the minister if he was in a conflict of interest when reporting on justice institutions, given how long SPAK has been investigating a relative of his for the AKSHI issue.
The Special Prosecution Office has seized 40 million Euros in assets originating from corruption, benefiting from the "Agasi-Beqiri" structured criminal group, which includes Gëzim Hoxha, brother of the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha.
The minister's brother was taken into custody in January 2026, with the measures "Compulsory appearance and prohibition of leaving the territory of Albania", while two days ago 1.3 million Euros were seized from him, which according to SPAK, he benefited from criminal activity with ANA tenders.
Debate in the Foreign Affairs Committee
Këlliçi: Are you in a conflict of interest in relation to a decision made public by the GJKKO 1 month ago for the determination of the asset security measure for a number of persons in the AKSHI scandal where SPAK prosecutors have registered the names of persons against whom investigations are being conducted on account of criminal proceedings no. 20/1 of 2025. Among the names mentioned is also Mr. Gëzim Hoxha who is suspected of committing the criminal offense of 'laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity'. We are talking about an organization that is at the highest level of organization. You cannot be impartial in your position in relation to the justice institutions and in relation to the first group chapter that deals with the judiciary, freedom, justice and security.
Hoxha: I have unconditional support for independent justice bodies. SPAK does its job and I do not discuss either the decisions of SPAK or the court. Justice bodies are established by consensus by Parliament. In relation to a certain investigation, which has been made public, you should bear in mind that we respect the presumption of innocence for everyone. There is no need to ask me about something that I am not involved in, neither I nor my immediate family. I have nothing to do with my large family, my tribe is very large. Even in Malësia e Madhe, if we go, we will find that I have half of my tribe there. Public lynching, collective blaming, smearing through bad biography, this society left behind 36 years ago. I have no connection to anything in that file and there is no one in the world who can smear me, Mr. Këlliçi, you or anyone. Do not mention my family. If you have anything for me, order Bujrum. It's the ugliest thing we've ever had, which was collective punishment because of a bad biography. If we still carry collective punishment because of a bad biography, it's not about me, it's about those who carry it.
Këlliçi: 10 days ago I made a message public that when I received, I had to verify. I was forced to release full photos of your post, the time when you deleted the message and when you decided to officially leave the ambassadors' group on WhatsApp. What is your comment in relation to these messages made public? For the first time in 36 years we are dealing with an insult to Albanians in North Macedonia. Do you stand by the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the messages are fabricated or is the message real and maintain a corrective stance and to publicly apologize?
Hoxha: I met with the Albanians of North Macedonia to agree with them that there is absolutely nothing here that we need to worry about. My positions in the position of minister, the positions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not made via SMS, Signal, WhatsApp, except with those who are authorized and are statements that are through official channels. Only those constitute authority.
