The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, reacted today during a press conference at the blue headquarters regarding the letter that former MP Ervin Salianji sent to the People's Parties regarding his exclusion from the race for the leadership of the DP on May 23.
Berisha stated that Salianji is free to write letters and follow the party's statutory procedures, but according to him, he has self-excluded himself from the Democratic Party.
"The Democratic Party is a member of all those institutions and the one who writes the letter is expelled from this party, but he is free to write letters, just as he is free to address the party bodies, the party court, where he can express his complaint, although he self-excluded, he chose self-exclusion himself," said Berisha.
The leader of the Democrats also leveled accusations against Salijanj, claiming that the letter may have been drafted by the DP's political opponents.
"Letters written by Rama's office or anyone else have no value to Sali Berisha, anyone can write letters," he declared at the end of the conference.
The member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, Ervin Salianji, has addressed a letter to the President of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, as well as to the leaders of the main European center-right parties that are part of the EPP, including German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to express concern regarding recent developments in the Democratic Party of Albania and the violation of democratic standards of its functioning.
In the letter, Salianji raises concerns about the blocking of the Democratic Party presidential race, the disregard for the party's statute, the arbitrary exclusion of members and candidates, the lack of transparency, and the violation of the basic rules of political pluralism.
