The law on national symbols, Dhuli collides with Kochi: Beleri is not in prison

The deputy of the Socialist Party, Petro Koçi, has spoken about the reason why he proposed the initiative that people who desecrate national symbols should not run for or be appointed to public positions.

He emphasized in an interview for AbcNews that he got the trigger to propose such a legal initiative from the case of Fredi Beleri in Himare, who appeared at an electoral meeting with the symbols of the Vorio Epiri flag.

According to him, this type of behavior desecrates the symbols of the republic and the proposed law aims to prevent such acts.

He got involved in a debate with the representative of the Democratic Party, Skerdjan Dhulin, who said that the law cannot be made just for an individual. Deputy Koçi further emphasized that for Fredi Beleri's candidacy in Himare, the political responsibility lies with Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta.

Excerpts from the debate:

Dhuli:  The law is not built for one person. In the case in question, the person closes his career in Albania, because with the punishment he will receive in the Appeal, he will lose the mandate of the municipality of Himare and this is where his career ends. Meanwhile, this person is being accepted by the European Parliament. At the moment when the EU in its most important institution, in the European Parliament, this person will have a member of the EP, of the most important parliamentary group, which is the EPP group and in the last many years they have been the majority in the EP. It means that this person for whom we are building such a strict law in Albania will be part of the European Parliament. This jumps out at me.

Koçi:  Therefore, the law is not made for the Beleri case. It affects Beller if he runs again.

Dhuli:  Then Beleri will declare the criminal offense, of course criminal offenses are prescribed at a certain moment, which means that at this moment this part ends, but there is something else. Beleri no longer has a political career, because he cannot re-candidate for the 4th time in the municipality of Himara, while losing with a battle in the appeals court.

Koçi:  This is a political responsibility, the author of which is Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta.

Dhuli:  Vangjel Tavo abandoned moral legitimacy the moment he accepted the position as prefect of the Vlora district, where he has nothing to do with that district.

Koçi:  Why should the prefect be related to the district? It is even good for me that the prefect has no connection with the district

Dhuli:  Experience has shown that the prefect needs knowledge of the problems, especially. Personally, I want Vangjel Tavo as the candidate in front of me, I don't know if Rama will fulfill this wish, but I want Tavo to run. Beleri is not in prison as a Greek, that is for another story, but in the television studio he is judged as a Greek. The political interests of the right-wing coalition in Albania and Mitsotakis are not satisfied in this case. He himself was before the elections, it's a separate story, I don't care. It's his report. The political interest of DP was the victory of the municipality of Himare, which of course was necessary by any means. That time showed that we were right about the goals why the municipality of Himara should be won. By any means, because PD was under great pressure from people who told us 'you are weak for leaving the municipality to Edi Rama. I was the only one in DP who opposed the boycott of the elections, and one of the reasons why I opposed Basha in that kind of madness was the Himare municipality. The forgiveness of municipalities on the table was unimaginable madness.
