The tragedy of the burning of the "Arlis" building in the area near the Hospitals is not stopping causing consequences and other problems.
The majority and Edi Rama have reiterated these days that they will not leave the residents alone, promising rental bonuses and the reconstruction of the apartments by the construction company. To mitigate the situation and cover up the scandal, Rama sent Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu and MP Ogerta Manastirliu to the area.
But all of this seems more like a propaganda ploy to calm public reaction, rather than a real solution to the problem.
In fact, the residents of the burned building and the entire surrounding area have been in a dire situation for days. OSHEE has cut off power to a large part of the area, leaving thousands of residents without electricity, without water and with their daily lives paralyzed.
The power outage has had a knock-on effect: water pumps, appliances, elevators, and basic services are out of service. Life has become a constant struggle to make ends meet.
A resident of the area told Pamfleti that more irritating than the lack of service is the behavior of the officials of the Energy Distribution Operator, who respond with indifference and arrogance. Even after repeated complaints, no one has taken measures to restore power, with the absurd excuse that they are on vacation.
Meanwhile, the lack of energy also brings about a lack of water, increases the risk of health problems and aggravates the situation especially for the sick, children and the elderly.
This drama that the residents of unit number 4 in the capital are experiencing is not simply a technical problem. It shows the real state of the Albanian state. A state where many officials do not perform their duties according to the law, but only when they receive orders from above. And when there are no orders, they retreat into indifference and arrogance towards the citizens.
This situation is directly related to the way the administration functions. Employment is not made on the basis of merit and responsibility, but often on the basis of connections and interests. As a result, some public structures are not accountable to the citizen, but to those who have placed them in these positions.
In this reality, the citizen remains last. While economic interests and indiscriminate construction continue to dominate, turning Tirana and the surrounding areas into a permanent construction site.
And in the meantime, tragedies are no longer just isolated events. They are the consequence of a system that doesn't work for people./ Pamphlet
