There were no surprises. Lulzim Basha has been elected the new chairman of the DP, amid controversies and clashes.
Today the elections for the president of the DP were held and according to the data after the counting, it turns out that 18,052 members out of 25,000 in total participated in the vote. Lulzim Basha received 16196 votes and Gjergji Hani 1657 votes.
It was the chairman of the PD Electoral Commission, Jemin Gjana, who published the results of this vote. " It turns out that 18,052 DP members participated in the voting, that is, about 71%. Out of 18052 members who participated in the voting, 18052 ballots were found in the ballot boxes, 199 were found invalid. 17853 are valid votes, of which Lulzim Basha received 16196 votes and Gjergji Hani 1657 votes. On the basis of these data, the Electoral Commission of the Democratic Party declares Mr. Lulzim Basha, who is declared the chairman of the Democratic Party, the winner of the elections ", said Gjana.
Basha's group was also configured in these elections, where there are 8 deputies behind him. These names took part in the voting today. They are: Kreshnik Çollaku, Eralda Bano, Merita Bakiu, Flutura Açka, Orjola Pampuri, Arbi Agalliu, Enkelejd Alibeaj and Selaudin Jakupllari. All the other PD deputies, including Gazment Bardhi or Jorida Tabaku, have boycotted this process.
The holding of the elections comes at a difficult moment for DP. The party is divided into several groups and its unification seems impossible. On one side is Berisha, on the other side Basha and in front of both Bardhi and several MPs. Bardhi himself has opposed the return of Basha. He gathered online several members of the National Council announcing that the elections were cancelled, but no one took it as a basis. Today the elections were held and around 21.00 the result is expected. Most likely, Basha is the winner with a deep result and now it is expected that DP will enter a new collision course.
