Lulzim Basha is expected to return as DP chairman. Today, the elections for the new chairman of the largest opposition party were held, a process which has once again stirred the waters within the party.
In all branches, Lulzim Basha and Gjergji Hanin were voted for, while the participation was relatively low. The election commission itself reduced the number of members with the right to vote to nearly 25,000. Meanwhile, until 17:00, nearly 14,000 people voted.
The head of the electoral commission Jemin Gjana himself was the one who announced the closing of the voting at 19.00. "Based on operational data up to 5:00 p.m., since after this hour there is an increase in the flow, the figure is somewhere around 13,700 voters. It was a quiet day. I and some members of the commission have gone down to the field. I have been to Elbasan, Belsh, Kuçovo, Berat. It was a quiet day. We expect a better result than 17.00 because we have data that there was a flow.
From the data we have from the information and what I saw in the centers I inspected, there has been an influx of individuals who have voted and there is a separate list whose identity card data has been kept. There were reports that sympathizers showed up to vote, but anyone without an identity card was not allowed," said Gjana.
The holding of the elections comes at a difficult moment for DP. The party is divided into several groups and its unification seems impossible. On one side is Berisha, on the other side Basha and in front of both Bardhi and several MPs. Bardhi himself has opposed the return of Basha. He gathered online several members of the National Council announcing that the elections were cancelled, but no one took it as a basis. Today the elections were held and around 21.00 the result is expected. Most likely, Basha is the winner with a deep result and now it is expected that DP will enter a new collision course.
