Prime Minister Rama's video congratulation on New Year's Eve was conceived as a metaphor through which the message was given that the more Edi Rama climbs the ladder of power, the higher Albania goes. The clip starts with some fish that Rama feeds with his hand, sitting cross-legged. A few seconds later, under the sounds of Moxart, he appears as he wanders thoughtfully, with his hands in his pockets, through the giant installation he has erected inside the prime minister's yard.
The filming, curated down to the last detail, would be the envy of any fan of posting videos on Instagram. It continues with footage of the prime minister stopping on occasion, such as to clean rotten leaves from trees and sometimes looking at the scaffolding at the half-finished works.
When he reaches the top of the building, Rama shares a greeting with the viewer, which begins with the words "There is a whole year to climb and every year there is only one day to come down..."
Continuing, Rama associates the idea of personal achievements with Albania's progress towards the destination, which he calls the United European Family.
It doesn't take much to understand that in addition to wishing for the new year, Rama had the desire to expose the premises of the park within the prime minister's office and with them, his tastes for the decoration of the installation named "Eden Park".
This project is a vegetable garden with several floors, surrounded by water. Since he has very little left to finish, Rama has started to use it as in the case when he gave an interview to two Greek journalists among the greenery and tree branches.
As a concept, the flower park in the prime minister is an extension of the table with colorful pencils, the wall paper with paintings, the lighting shelter at the entrance or even the mushroom in the outer courtyard of the building.
All these create an ensemble of distraction, in front of which there is no visitor who is not taxed by the burst of colors and symbols that emerge from every corner of the building. The favorite prey of this mechanism are mainly the foreigners who visit the prime minister, be they journalists, diplomats or whatever.
It's just that the realization of Eden Park, unlike the others, came at an inopportune moment.
The initial decision was taken in July 2022, when the government charged the Albanian Development Fund for the tender that fulfilled Edi Rama's wishes and which was not little, but about 431 million ALL .
The problem is that in the fall of 2022, the headline was the consequences of the pandemic in the economy. The country experienced difficulties in the supply of electricity and the price of oil rose shockingly.
In order to manage the irritation of the citizens, Rama then called for savings, because the situation could get even worse. It is enough to go back to the archives of that time, to remember several tens of hours of press conferences when the prime minister repeated that "we live in difficult times", that "the cuts plan has been prepared" and that we were living in "emergency" times and that people should "start saving".
In order to increase the pressure on the citizens, Rama took it in vain, when he took Switzerland as an example, which, according to him, put people in prison who kept the air conditioner set to more than 19 degrees Celsius. So funny, even at that time, Belinda Balluku appeared publicly asking citizens to walk and not to take the car to buy cigarettes on the other side of the street.
The saving campaign was pumped by the entire government, which during the pandemic threatened with power outages or fuel shortages in the market.
It is precisely this time, when Rama made the decision to finance "Eden Park", the garden with plants outside the window of his office, for which he needed 431 million of our money.
To justify the large amount of money, the installation is described as a creative environment that enables the development of official conferences during the day and in the evening and that can be used for lectures, concerts or speeches.
In fact, it is just a whim of the prime minister, a paid environment to make the most beautiful videos for Instagram and Facebook. Just like the congratulations for the year 2025, this time it came as a test for the immeasurable power that Rama has accumulated from the citizens, who are thus more like the fish of his personal park./ Lapsi.al
