Former Socialist MP and former Speaker of Parliament Servet Pëllumbi has passed away at the age of 89!

Former Speaker of the Parliament and one of the leading figures of the Socialist Party, Servet Pëllumbi, passed away today. He passed away at the age of 89.

Known among socialists as the professor, Pëllumbi has a rich career in Albanian politics, as a former speaker of the parliament and several terms as a deputy. He has also been a powerful voice in the ranks of the socialists.

Pëllumbi was born on December 14, 1936 in Korça and is known as one of the figures who played an important role in the country's political developments, especially during the transition period. 

He is considered one of the figures who played an important role in political developments, especially during the transition after the '90s. During this period, he served as vice-chairman of the Socialist Party from 1990 to 1996 and was engaged in important political campaigns, including opposing the referendum on the Constitution and efforts for the release of Fatos Nano.

Pëllumbi had a profound academic background. He completed his higher studies at the University of Petersburg, where he received a doctorate in Literature. He began his career as a lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute of Korça in 1960–1963 and then continued in this profession until 1977, before being included in the leadership structures of the Labor Party. For several years he was also a lecturer at the University of Tirana.

For his contribution, Servet Pëllumbi was decorated by President Alfred Moisiu with the "Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg" order.
