SPAK interrogates Jamarbër Malltezi today, Berisha's son-in-law faces
Jamarbër Malltezi

Today, Wednesday, January 17, the Special Prosecutor's Office summoned the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, Jamarbër Malltez, to be questioned regarding the "Partizani" affair.

This is the first time that Malltezi has been called for questioning since he was placed under house arrest.

The session is scheduled at 10:00 with prosecutors Arben Kraja and Enkeleda Millonai.

Sali Berisha's lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, announced yesterday that they have submitted a request to SPAK to postpone the hearing, since Malltez's defense lawyers cannot participate due to commitments.

"Being that the defenders of both Mr. Sali Berisha and Mr. Jamarber Malltezi are unable to participate in both question sessions for objective work and family reasons and considering that this participation is necessary, they (lawyers) have turned to SPAK with a request for postponing the question of the above citizens for the following week on one of the days that they will consider suitable", Gjokutaj wrote yesterday.

Also, SPAK requested the interrogation of Berisha, the next day, January 18.

For Berisha, the lawyers have filed a request to postpone the hearing. Most likely, the lawyers request that the former prime minister be interrogated after the GJKKO Appeal examines their request to appeal the security measure of house arrest.

What are Malltezi and Berisha accused of?

Sali Berisha and Jamarbër Malltezi are placed under the security measure "house arrest" and are being investigated by SPAK for the privatization of the former "Partizani" complex.

Regarding the case of the Partizani complex, SPAK arrested Jamarbër Malltez and then placed him under house arrest, while Sali Berisha and Fatmir Bektashi have been banned from traveling abroad and are forced to appear before the judicial police.

The Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime in Tirana placed under preventive seizure 16 real estates of Malltez, 6 of his bank accounts as well as shares of his founding capital in three companies.

Malltezi is suspected of having committed passive corruption in cooperation with his father-in-law Sali Berisha, using his power as prime minister, benefiting from the privatization of sports grounds and facilities, from changing the destination from sports areas to residential areas, significant amounts in quality of the investor from the company "Homeplan" sh.pk, without investing in it, as well as benefits received before being declared as a partner in this company.

While in cooperation with the builder Fatmir Bektashi, Malltezi is suspected of having cleaned the proceeds of the criminal offense, presenting himself as an investor in the works for the construction of the block of flats, while it turns out that he did not invest, performing financial actions, fragmented transactions , or in cash, to hide the origin and to profit illegally amounts up to over 5 million euros.

On the other hand, Bektashi is also suspected of having committed active corruption of high state officials in cooperation with Malltez, giving him illegal benefits in large sums, with the common goal of making constructions in the sports fields.

It is suspected that, in cooperation with Malltezi, they cleaned the proceeds of the criminal offense while hiding the true origin of Malltezi's irregular monetary benefits, presenting them as legitimate business income.

The Partizani sports complex with 26,000 square meters, property of the army, was replaced within a few years by a complex of buildings, which investigators suspect was paved the way through passive and active corruption by Sali Berisha, Jamarbër Malltezi and Fatmir Bektashi./ Pamphlet
