Prime Minister Edi Rama has given a strong message regarding the phenomenon of nepotism, describing it as one of the most acute problems that damages the integrity of public administration and the trust of citizens.
"Family members support us unconditionally. In my eyes, they are heroes for having me at home and putting up with me, but they have also led the opposition within the house themselves. When it comes to our decision-making, family members cannot seek advantages from our government. Not only in relation to the hundreds of thousands of members and supporters of this large family, but not even in relation to every person in this country, who should be evaluated according to their merit, not according to their last name or father-in-law, not according to the personal interest of the deputies who make mistakes in the most irresponsible ways to systematize one or the other, without knowing what consequences the system of the incompetent and the blind has. Without knowing that those mistakes are a stab in the back for those grandparents who chose early in the morning to vote for the PS. I know that mitigating nepotism is like entering a web more slanderous than spiders, but we must enter this path.
"Who are we to deprive citizens of their legitimate demands in exchange for the trust they have given us? Whoever became an MP to arrange family members' work in the state will no longer be welcome in the parliamentary group. The Ethics Committee will do exactly that. Or let the mandate give family members the opportunity to show themselves in state affairs," said Rama.
