The Albanian Parliament is holding its plenary session today, which can also be considered a marathon due to the busy calendar, with 21 items on the agenda to be discussed.
The Assembly is also expected to elect the Ombudsman today, while a motion with debate is also expected regarding the OSCE/ODIHR final report on the May 11 elections, and an interpellation requested by the leader of "Mundësia" Agron Shehaj with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
There are 6 candidates in the race for the position of Ombudsman, all of whom are supported by the signatures of opposition MPs, mainly from the Democratic Party of Albania, which withdrew its support three days ago, but the Socialists, on the other hand, decided not to recognize the act of withdrawal of signatures, postponing the vote on the names to the session. The Ombudsman requires a consensus of 84 votes, while the Socialists officially have 83. The vote for the election of the Ombudsman is secret, which means that there may be a surprise, if there is no political agreement, that one of the names listed as candidates receives the necessary support.
Also on the agenda is the motion with debate regarding May 11, the day the elections were held, while this agenda item is the penultimate in the session calendar. The debate on this item is expected to last 150 minutes in total, with the Socialists having 89 minutes and the Democrats 38 minutes. The rest of the time is fragmented between other parliamentary groups and MPs who are not included in a parliamentary group.
