From Etjen Xhafaj and Arben Pëllumbi, to Dash Shehi, Alibeaj and Basha, who

Here are the names that received very few votes in the open competition....

As the race for the open list continues, a good portion of old politicians – some of them emblems of the past system – have suffered a silent but clear blow: the lack of direct support from voters.

In the May 11 elections, 17 well-known figures resulted with the lowest number of preferential votes, leaving them out of any real race for office. At least from the count so far.

In the list of socialists in Tirana, the minimal performance of Etjen Xhafaj with only 463 votes and Arben Pëllumbi with 806, followed by Toni Gogu (1326) stands out. Although we have not included them in the list, names like Mimi Kodheli, Pandeli Majko, Plarent Ndreca or Ermonela Felaj have received fewer votes than expected. After names like Goxhe, Hoxha or Braçe have 8-13 thousand votes.

In the opposition camp, the situation is not any brighter. Sali Shehu received only 763 votes, while Kreshnik Çollaku received 730. Julia Ilirjani is almost non-existent with only 195 votes.

Meanwhile, among the smaller parties, the failure is even deeper: Lulzim Basha of the Euro-Atlantic Coalition received only 736 votes, while Enkelejd Alibeaj – 151 votes, ranking among the most negatively voted in the history of modern elections. Dashamir Shehi received only 297 votes, despite having been in politics for over 30 years.

Among the DP candidates who did not make it is Edmond Spaho, who with 2,479 votes finished seventh in the race for the open list in Korça, remaining outside Parliament.

The open list has produced a direct effect: the filtering of the political class. Where once a place on the closed list was enough, today real support is required. And that, as the figures show, has been completely lacking for a large part of those who still think they are factors in Albanian politics.
