In the Tirana District, the Democratic Party has won 13 mandates, but only one of them comes through the open list preferential vote – and this very mandate is turning into a tough battle between two well-known opposition figures: Jorida Tabaku and Ilir Alimehmeti.
According to the latest data, Tabaku has received 8,778 votes, leaving him with about 400 votes behind Alimehmeti, who has 8,380. The gap still remains narrow, but the trend of votes so far suggests a growing advantage for MP Tabaku, who appears to be consolidating her support in Tirana.
This race has received special attention after both candidates were left out of the 12 names secured by Berisha on the closed list, forcing them to challenge themselves through the direct vote of the citizens. Tabaku, one of the most respected technical figures in the DP, and Alimehmeti, a professional with a civic and academic profile, have become symbols of two poles within the same party.
