Details emerge from President Begaj's meeting with his Montenegrin

The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro, was received today with high state honors in Podgorica by his counterpart, Jakov Milatović.

Initially, the two Presidents held a face-to-face meeting and then with the presence of the respective delegations.

The conversation focused on bilateral dialogue and relations, the common Euro-Atlantic journey, the situation in the region, the challenges of dealing with third parties, as well as Albanians in Montenegro and the Montenegrin minority in Albania.

The meeting confirmed the very good and friendly relations between Albania and Montenegro as two neighboring states and NATO members that are negotiating intensively with the European Union, while special importance was given to strengthening political and economic cooperation.

"Today we agreed to encourage the governments of our countries to undertake more joint projects, especially in cross-border areas. In these areas, human potential, economic opportunities and unique cultural heritage can be better explored and utilized. Together with my friend, President Milatović, we believe that it would be very important to plan joint visits to these areas."

"It is very important to have very good political relations, but even more important is to have economic cooperation to increase the well-being of our peoples. It is very important for our countries, it is important for the region and for the European Union itself," said the Albanian Head of State.

President Begaj praised the tourism sector as an important part of this cooperation, emphasizing the need to increase well-coordinated bilateral cooperation to thereby boost the development of cross-border areas.

Referring to the cooperation between the Plavë-Gucia area and Vermoshi, President Begaj stated that we should move forward with such positive projects that bring well-being to the people and opportunities for young people: "But, there is still untapped potential, which should also include other cross-border areas in Albania, Montenegro and Kosovo. Road connectivity and joint tourism projects favor the development of these areas and will stimulate young people not to abandon them. The construction of the bridge that will connect Velipoja with Ulcinj is a project with a very large impact on border connectivity and the development of tourism. It will enable the creation of an economic, tourist and social axis that connects Shkodra, Lezha and Ulcinj."

Such cooperation should include all countries in the region, – assessed the President of the Republic, who emphasized that regional cooperation should be constructive, dynamic and proactive, with a clear orientation, despite the challenges: “The Euro-Atlantic perspective is the only perspective that will guarantee peace, stability, security, reconciliation and sustainable development. Any other approach would cause bilateral disputes, folkloric nationalisms and the influences of third factors to gain more ground. The Albanian factor also plays an important role in this regard, – emphasized the President of the Republic, who reconfirmed the commitment to being a full part of the European Union: “We have so far held 2 intergovernmental meetings and the opening of several chapters, hoping that within 2025 all negotiation chapters with the European Union will be opened.

Likewise, we hope and believe that Albania, within the time frame of this decade, will deserve membership in the European Union. Although membership takes time, for us the process is very important, a process that is transforming our society, governance, economy and bringing direct benefits to all our citizens.

During the joint press conference, President Begaj expressed to his counterpart Milatović Montenegro's continued support for Kosovo in its efforts for regional and international integration.

"Kosovo must continue with great energy and dynamism the process of its full international confirmation, integration into regional and international organizations, advancement of its application for membership in the European Union, institutional cooperation with NATO, with the aim of its membership to be a member of NATO, and strengthening democracy and sustainable development", - said the President of the Republic, who called on the political leaders of Pristina to quickly form a new government to fulfill these objectives. The Head of State congratulated the citizens of Kosovo for holding peaceful and orderly elections.
