Prime Minister Edi Rama from Luxembourg has expressed that he feels sad that North Macedonia, unlike Albania, has not entered the next phase of the EU integration process.
He said that history cannot be a reason to stop membership talks for one country, referring to the impasse between North Macedonia and Bulgaria.
As a joke, Rama said: "The views of who was the mother of the national hero and with whom he fell in love, are interesting topics for historians."
"My friend, you are familiar with the neighborhood in the region and you know that Albania has joined forces with others many times. All the pairings made us realize that we didn't want to be in a couple out of necessity but to find happiness. All of a sudden we found it only in Macedonia. It was not bad because we shared many things together.
But I don't think it was something that you or we should see as a never-ending story. I must say that we feel sad that the RMV brothers are not yet at this stage of the process, even though they were the first to start the process.
He also changed his name so he could start this thing. And yes, I stand by everything I said about our Bulgarian friends.
Views on who the national hero's mother was and with whom he made love are interesting topics for historians, but they are not part of what it takes to become part of the EU. It is not an attack on Bulgaria, but something obvious", said Rama.
The Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, also commented on the separation of the two countries from each other in this process, saying that Albania is going its own way because it is a process that is based on merit.
"If Albania and RMV were together in a certain way, politically, because legally, never. Both countries have started the intergovernmental conference in different ways.
