Constitution of the new Municipal Council of Himara

The constitution of the members of the new Municipal Council of Himara has started.

Members are currently taking the oath of office as the situation became tense with Beler supporters seeking to enter the hall.

Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of this municipality on May 14, will not be sworn in as mayor, after GJKKO rejected his request to be part of the oath.

His supporters have requested that he be at the meeting of the municipal council and demand that the employees of the municipality when it was headed by Jorgo Goro leave and that only the new municipality be present.

We recall that the winner of the May 14 elections, Fredi Beleri, was not given permission to leave his cell and take the oath as the mayor of Himara. He is under arrest for buying and selling votes.

However, he sent a letter from prison where he emphasized that the 45 days in custody do not change his deep faith in democracy, rights and institutions, adding that "this ordeal will not have a cross".

In Himarë, the Socialist Party has won 9 mandates in the municipal council, the "Together We Win" coalition has won 7 mandates and the Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party, LZHK, AAK and MEGA have won 1 mandate each.

Fredi Beleri won the elections in Himare with 19 more votes. He received 3,840 votes from the 3,821 received by the SP candidate, Jorgo Goro.
