Tensions at the Himara City Council meeting, Beler's supporters demand the
Himara Municipal Council meeting

Today, at 11 o'clock, the municipal council is expected to be constituted in the municipality of Himara.

Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of this municipality on May 14, will not be sworn in as mayor, after GJKKO rejected his request to be part of the oath.

Being behind bars for buying votes, Fredi Beleri has sent a greeting letter to the members of the Himara Municipality Council as well as to the citizens.

In his letter, Beleri says that he has been prevented from taking office by alienating the result of the elections for the moment and adds that the 45-day detention measure is unfair, but it does not change his faith in democracy, institutions and points first to the citizens.

The meeting of the municipal council has also been accompanied by tensions as the constitution is expected to take place. Freddie Beller supporters demand that current city hall employees walk out and only Beller supporters stay inside.

In the meantime, the political delegate Blendi Klosi and deputies from Vlora have arrived.

The Special Court rejected Fredi Beler's request for permission to be released from custody to participate in the Himara municipal council meeting where he would be sworn in as the new mayor of the city.

The reason for rejecting the request for a special permit, according to the court, was the fact that the person arrested for electoral corruption does not meet the legal criteria. Referring to Article 60 of the law, special permission is granted for important family events, such as marriage, death, or school exams of the defendant himself who is accompanied by police.
