Today, the candidate for the head of the DP, Gjergj Hani, held a conference with journalists. He is expected to run against Lulzim Basha in the July 29 elections.
But an unexpected thing happened where he left the conference in the middle, to get the glasses, which he needed.
"Sorry, age takes its toll, I'm going to get some glasses there" - the latter addressed the journalists.
Hani said that he is an alternative, not that he is Gjergji Hani, but the ideas he will bring to the Democrats.
The focus for Gjergji Hani was the opening of the Democratic Party, not in theory but in practice, bringing together democrats from the diaspora as well.
I was one of the biggest supporters of Basha and I expected that his return to the political scene, I would accept if it came with clear premises on what separates the DP from Sali Berisha. What were the ways that he would use for the reconstruction of the PD to separate it from the party of the power bargains or from the party of the leader. I was convinced that Basha would return with these premises. His comeback was built on populist demagoguery. I felt it as a personal challenge with those 104 thousand democrats and I took it upon myself to bring before Albanians and democrats the voice of those who went to vote knowing full well that they would lose. I am an alternative. The alternative changes because it is not George but the idea that George will bring to the Democrats. A great opening of the DP is needed, not in theory, but in practice. Refresh human resources, including inflows from the diaspora. The chairman of the party to create his own shadow government. Membership in DP should be reduced below the age of 16. - said Gjergji Hani.
