Today, Tirana is welcoming the Regional Summit on the Growth and Convergence Plan with a focus on the integration of the Western Balkans towards the European Union, as well as the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

Meanwhile, the ceremony of the leaders' arrival at the summit has begun, as they are welcomed by Prime Minister Edi Rama at the entrance of the Palace of Congresses.

The European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood, Oliver Varhelyi, will be present at the summit.

The EU plan for the Western Balkans aims at the economic growth of the region, the acceleration of appropriate reforms, and the making of investments that can advance the process of EU enlargement with these countries.

The Western Balkans Enlargement Plan is based on 4 main pillars:

- Increasing economic integration with the Single Market of the European Union.

- Increasing economic integration within the Western Balkans through the Common Regional Market.

-Acceleration of fundamental reforms

-Increasing financial aid

The EU will open certain areas of the EU common market to Western Balkan partners before membership, bringing tangible benefits to its citizens.

The summit starts around 09:45, where Prime Minister Edi Rama and Commissioner Varhelyi will give their opening speeches. About an hour later, the works are expected to close where the family photo will be taken. The signing of the agreement is expected at 12:00, while at 12:30 there will be a press conference.
