Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja says that 3 former police officers convicted for abuse of office in Kukës will benefit from the criminal amnesty
Minister Manja has stated that the Criminal Amnesty is truncated since 95 percent of the criminal offenses provided for in the Criminal Code are not provided for.
He emphasized that as a result of the amnesty, those who have been sentenced by the JJKKO will not benefit, but people like in the case of Iliri, a person who was taken as an example by the minister to show that the amnesty first of all aims to help and rehabilitate of persons who have served 2/3 of the sentence.
Iliri is married, he has 7 children, he was sentenced to probation. He is employed, he has returned to normal life and we will do our best to educate the 7 children. Since we are at the amnesty, I brought the example of Iliri that the criminal amnesty is one of the main principles are humanity. It is done for amnesty for a category of convicts who have served 2/3 of the sentence. It has been over 4 years since there was a criminal amnesty in Albania. I am sorry that they did not read the law. Someone threw a stone at the shingle and makes everyone work together to speed up the republic. It is a truncated amnesty. 95% of the criminal offenses in the criminal code are excluded from this amnesty. None of us had the intention of amnestying any person convicted by the GJKKO. The reduction of the punishment due to the amnesty does not remove the stain. In the initial version, this amendment was not there. 3 beneficiaries were police officers convicted at the border point of Morina ." - said Manja
Manja said that they are ready to sit down with the opposition and review this amendment.
" How many votes do you have? We will introduce it in the parliament when the opposition MPs are in the parliament hall and they will be the ones who will ask for it to be included in the agenda. We have done our duty, we filed the law three months ago. It is now in the plenary session, when they are ready. I would ask and wish that this law receives the votes of all members of the assembly. We are ready to sit down for this amendment, but if there is a mistake for the opposition that they will benefit from a 1-year reduction in the sentence of 3 former police officers for abuse of office in Kukës, we will withdraw, it is not a problem ," said Manja.
