Here's how the votes are divided in each district...
The vote counting process in Albania is nearing completion, with 4,079 ballot boxes counted out of a total of 5,225, representing about 78% of the ballot boxes. Up to this stage, the results show a clear victory for the Socialist Party, which with 560,385 votes has secured 82 seats, bringing it significantly closer to an absolute majority in the Assembly.
The Democratic Party, within the coalition "Alliance for a Greater Albania", has received 366,110 votes and is expected to have 52 mandates, a result that shows its weakening in relation to the majority and the difficulties in building a strong and coherent opposition.
On the other hand, new parties and alternative forces have received a significant number of votes, but have been severely penalized by the current electoral system. The “Albania Becomes” initiative has secured 37,679 votes, the Opportunity Party has received 31,126 votes, while the Together Movement has achieved 14,418 votes, but all three of these forces have only managed to win one mandate each. The Social Democratic Party (PSD), with 37,488 votes, has also received 3 mandates, mainly thanks to the concentration of votes in specific constituencies.
This distribution highlights a deep structural problem in the country’s regional proportional representation system, which was adopted in 2008 by the Rama-Berisha pact. This model favors large parties with consolidated electoral networks and concentrated votes in certain areas, while penalizing new parties with scattered support at the national level. As a result, thousands of citizens who voted for new alternatives will not have real representation in the Assembly, raising again serious questions about democratic legitimacy and the need for reform of the electoral system.
