The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has commented on the recent clash between Prime Minister Edi Rama and former Foreign Minister, Elisa Spiropali, following the latter's public statements and her absence from a parliamentary session.
According to Berisha, the situation within the Socialist Party indicates a deep crisis and, according to him, this political force has transformed into a structure that protects criminal interests.
"That party today is more than ever a criminal party, that party today is a shield party for the monstrous crimes against Albanians and the plunder that Rama and his criminal organization commit of public funds and property."
"The party and the government have finally been suffocated, they are the last gasps of a regime that is doing everything to stay afloat, but which Albanians have decided to reject," said Berisha.
The clash between Rama and Spiropali took place during a meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, where, according to reports, the former minister had expressed criticism of the government and the party.
During the meeting, which was closed to the media, Prime Minister Rama reportedly gave Spiropali an ultimatum, asking him to choose between standing by the Socialist Party or confronting it. He also asked him to stop critical posts on social media, warning of consequences if he did not.
"Either with us or in front of us, take a deep breath and understand what you have done," Rama is reported to have said during the meeting without the media.
