A few minutes before the Tirana Municipal Council meeting begins, the Technical Secretariat responded to Mayor Erion Veliaj, informing him that there is no obstacle for him to be present at the meeting where his dismissal will be voted on.
The Socialist Party has decided to dismiss Veliaj with the argument that he has not been to the office for over 3 months. But the law clearly states that he has the right to be heard in the Council and to give his arguments. For several days, Veliaj has requested to be present and the left-wing councilors have maneuvered to close the door on him in a way.
Only now, when it is known that Veliaj is unable to go, since he is in a cell and not at home, have they responded that nothing prevents him from being present.
" Dear Chairman,
Following your letter no. 32059/3 prot., dated 22.09.2025, we bring to your attention that there is no decision by the Municipal Council to prohibit your presence at this meeting and that your request to be recognized, heard, defended and provided with clarifications will be taken to the Tirana Municipal Council Meeting, which will take place on Tuesday, 23.09.2025, at 16:00.
"As above, we reiterate that following your request to be physically present at the Municipal Council meeting, in case of inability to be present, please submit your observations in writing to the Council so that they can be administered and made known at this meeting ," the letter reads.
