EP calls on politics not to be confused with the Special Prosecution Office...
The European Parliament has sent a strong message to the political class. After DASH expressed its support for the integrity of SPAK, the EP is careful to send a message to Rama, Berisha, Xhafaj and anyone else who thinks they can undo the reform, that they should forget about this.
In the annual report on the implementation of the Foreign and Security Policy, drafted by MEP David McCallister, the European Parliament gives absolute support to the justice reform.
“ The European Parliament welcomes Albania’s ambition to swiftly conclude the accession negotiations; underlines the need to further intensify reforms to address the shortcomings that continue to be present in relation to the ‘foundations’, in particular as regards the rule of law, the fight against corruption and organised crime; warns against any attempt to undermine the work of independent institutions, such as the Special Structure against Corruption and Organised Crime (SPAK) , ”the EP stresses.
There is also a message for the political class. The EP calls on the opposition and the majority to contribute to a more friendly political climate.
“ The European Parliament stresses the importance of a functional political pluralism and a competitive opposition and calls for dialogue and constructive engagement between the majority and the opposition, to overcome the pronounced political polarization in the country and to promote inclusive democratic processes that respect all parties, including the Greek, Roma and Egyptian minorities in the country ,” the report continues.
Finally, the European Parliament Report assesses our country's full compliance with the European Union's foreign and security policy, including with the EU's restrictive measures against Russia and Belarus.
