"Tired and divided party", Dhurata Çupi: DP is in its most

MP Dhurata Çupi spoke about the current situation of the Democratic Party. She said that Berisha has to face the demand of the Democrats, who are seeking a reformation of the Democratic Party.

Dhurata Çupi joins the voices calling for changes to the party's structure, leadership, and organization.

"The Democratic Party is in the most difficult situation in its 34 years of existence. Today, it is necessary to reform the DP, today we have a divided, tired, closed party and we must make the Democratic Party open, responsible for tomorrow and a governing alternative for the day after tomorrow and have in its structures and leadership people with vision, uncompromising and having the right legitimacy", she told "TCH".

The former Democratic lawmaker says she does not believe the leader of the DP should step down. For her, the reformation should take place under his supervision.

"I am convinced that the formation of the DP should be done under the leadership of Sali Berisha. If it is not under his leadership today, at this moment where we are, it is likely that the DP will disintegrate badly and no one will take over the unification ," said Çupi.

With the end of this stage, Democrats must make up their minds whether they want to go with the old leader or a new chairman.

"We must be clear, the DP seeks a direction without personalizing it, where the vision and legitimacy are seen and the lack of compromise with the government is seen. This must be an individual to lead the DP. But if we are looking for a leader, today we are wrong. The leader of the DP is and remains Sali Berisha. Because to become a leader you must have won several major political challenges, you do not become a leader because you have won the leadership of the DP, it takes a lot of work. Today we are talking about the leader of the Democratic Party, who will unite the democrats, have a vision for the future, not deal with the past, open the Democratic Party ", she added.

A new movement that aims for radical change in the DP is emerging, Dhurata Çupi has no qualms about siding with any group that has a different opinion:  "It is depressing to think that the Democratic Party, which came and was formed with the ideals of free speech, to make Albania like the rest of Europe and democratic, after a post-communist period, today is a party that does not respect different opinions in the party. I have 34 years of experience in the DP from its founding to today. I will do my best and support any group that has vision, legitimacy and has the moral charter to be in the leadership structures of the DP."

Her suggestion to colleagues is to learn from the past and form an opposition within Parliament, also to abandon the radical path.
