Lulzim Basha has finally decided to face the journalists. Two years after he left the head of the Democratic Party, Basha today appeared at a media conference, breaking his silence on a series of developments, especially regarding Sali Berisha.
The former prime minister is under house arrest and Basha had not spoken, but in front of the journalists he declared that he has two positions. One on a personal level and one on a political level.
"I am very sorry that a man with whom I cooperated, a man ends up here, what I had to say I have said. In the end, everyone makes their own choice in life that they have to face and take responsibility for. Deep regret that it ends this way. It is necessary for the opposition to move forward, not to step on the past, not to deny it neither good nor bad things, justice must do its job and everyone starting from me, we must be available to justice, I have brought to the parliament for the removal of immunity , "he said.
He also answered the question about his absence in the plenary session where it was voted to remove the immunity of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, following the request of SPAK.
He stated that he was absent that day, due to the situation in which the Assembly was located and the chaos created by the Re-establishment.
" The DP's decision is clear, we have said from the beginning that we will vote for anyone who is requested to remove immunity. Alibeaj clarified the DP's decision at the mandates committee meeting. We would be in the parliament, but the parliament has not functioned as such for a long time. On that day, the parliament was at its worst.
We had a group of people who created smoke and in turn the wolf who used this smoke. I am reminding you once again of our initiative to remove immunity ", said Basha.
He was asked about his return to public appearances only after the arrest of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha. Basha said that he does not connect the two events together and said that during the last months in the PD, work has been done on the structuring of the Democratic Party.
He said he has held 250 meetings across the country with citizens and supporters, saying he has been connecting broken wires.
" I would not connect the two events with each other, we have worked for the structuring of the Democratic Party. Personally, I have been in 250 meetings all over Albania to connect the wires broken by DP with the problems of the people and the people. We were in a telenovela where the actors, director and television viewers were the opposition politicians themselves. These months have served for DP to deal with its organization and raise the foundations again to start the process of creating our offer for citizens.
