Edi Rama declared yesterday with conviction that the SP will reap a big victory in next year's elections, and he even predicted the number of deputies of Sali Berisha.
If Rama was sure of victory, he could have opened the party as much as possible, to all SP groups, or even the youth. As Fatos Nano did in the 2000s, when he invited not only Edi Rama, but also other voices coming from the "gray zone", precisely to increase the political quality of the majority.
Nano was surrounded at that time by advisers coming from the DP and the right cooperated with many independent voices. Ylli Manjani, who chose him as General Secretary, had been the head of the financial police in Lezhë; Shpëtim Idrizi, who appointed him director of taxes and customs, came from an experience in the December movement and in the DP, just like Agim Isaku, who had his late wife, Vera, as a member of the DP, etc., etc.
All this happened because Nano saw socialist militancy as stifling for the open Albanian society, and he was right.
Nano did this after the first mandate, where it was clear that he would win the second one as well.
Meanwhile, Edi Rama, who does not have the courage of his successor, even today when he talks about the victory of the fourth term, is afraid to open the SP. Even with the departure of Fatos Nano's group, which represents Taulant Balla, he showed that he wants to bunker the party. As he did when he took it in 2005, and filled it with bureaucrats from the municipality of Tirana.
