Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha delivered his daily speech from the apartment where today he chose to speak about the national issue.
Berisha also congratulated Kosovo on its independence.
"Today in the history of the nation is one of the greatest days, it is the independence day of Kosovo. It is the day that made the Albanian nation free after centuries and centuries. We are a nation with two birthdays of freedom. We are a nation with two independence dates. November 28, 1912, the independence of Albania, without which there would be no Albanian state, there would be no independent Kosovo. In addition, we have February 17, 2008, the next birthday of national freedom, the independence of Kosovo, without which the Albanians would not be a free nation, they would not enjoy national freedom. Therefore, today let us express our great pride, our boundless gratitude to the architect of Kosovo's independence, the wise man of the nation, the Gandhi of the Balkans and Europe, President Ibrahim Rugova. Let us express the greatest respect to the legendary commander, Adem Jashari. To the freedom fighters of the KLA, who with epic courage fought the brightest fight in the history of Albanians for freedom and dignity since the time of Skënderbeu. Unlimited gratitude to the North Atlantic Alliance, our partners, President Bill Clinton and George Bush, for their decisive role in Kosovo's independence", said Berisha.
The former prime minister said that the Democratic Party has the national issue as its polar star.
According to him, it was the Democratic Party that announced the national issue betrayed by the Communist Party.
"Every democrat has a sense of pride today, because this party was founded in December 1990, as the party that declared the polar star, the national issue.
He declared the national issue, betrayed for 50 years by the Albanian Communist Party, a section of the Yugoslav Communist Party, a polar star.
But we could not be the true party of the Albanians, if we did not announce the right cause for the freedom and dignity of the Albanians as the main cause of our program.
My friends, the only strength was our ideals. The only strength at that time was the belief in Albanian truths.
DP became the main support of the Democratic League of Kosovo. With its coming to power, Albania became the main promoter of the issue of Albanians in Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and everywhere.
The government of Kosovo, its parallel government, President Ibrahim Rugova, but also the people who started the liberation war, Adem Jashari and other freedom fighters, had Albania as their main support", said Berisha in his speech.
