The leader of the Movement for National Development (LZHK), Dashamir Shehi, proposed extending the mandate of SPAK prosecutors, arguing that they should not be left without institutional protection in confronting organized crime and corruption.
According to him, a second term would provide security and continuity to investigations, avoiding the risk of prosecutors leaving after opening sensitive cases.
"Those prosecutors who are fighting criminals, we need to extend their mandate. Give them a second mandate. Where will you hand them over? On the streets? They will flee on the streets after they have fought the criminals. And who takes responsibility for that in Albanian society? So the parliament has a hand in this, the support must turn into legislative action.
The opposition has this in its hands. To say that these gentlemen have a six-year mandate, I would give them 12 so they feel safe. This is the support that the opposition gives to justice. They are waging a war, to give them a mandate so they feel a little more safe. Is the mandate enough to make them braver? No. Are salaries ever enough to make judges less corrupt? Never. Understand that there are people here who have earned millions and have not been arrested. Not that salaryman," said Shehi.
Shehi stressed that the justice reform has failed in several aspects, including the lack of functional courts and the insufficient number of magistrates, but praised SPAK and GJKKO. According to him, they have marked concrete steps with unprecedented arrests and investigations.
"Justice for the citizen who has 30 thousand files in the high court is certainly not justice. I myself am one of those files there that we have been waiting for decisions on for 12 years. I absolutely agree. There are courts without a building, there are courts with a building without judges. The same thing for prosecutors. There are not enough magistrates there. All that was done for reform from this point of view has failed for me. We have a segment; these two special courts, to be honest, so we should not pretend we don't see them. If five, six people have been arrested, if a few names are being investigated, which is the first time this has happened in this evil state, it is extraordinary. It has never happened before. Then let's kick this work and discourage them from doing this work," Shehi said for "A2 CNN".
The head of the LZK added that the opposition must turn support for justice into concrete legislative action, by undertaking initiatives that strengthen institutions and protect prosecutors from political pressure.
He also criticized the use of public administration for electoral purposes and the centralization of local government, calling this a blow to democracy and representation.
Shehi called for political renewal and the inclusion of new faces, emphasizing that without a generational change and mentality, Albanian politics risks not offering Albanians a real alternative.
