"DP has gone downhill", Dashamir Shehi: Basha received more votes

The leader of the Movement for National Development (LZHK), Dashamir Shehi, has stated that the Democratic Party is in a downward trend and is no longer sufficient to win the elections, despite remaining the largest force within the opposition.

Invited to the "A2 CNN" show, Shehi said that the electoral figures clearly speak of the decline of the DP over the years. According to him, the opposition has lost ground even compared to previous elections.

" The opposition group has a large party, which is the Democratic Party, but it is insufficient to win the elections. Moreover, it is in a downward trend. With Mr. Basha we received 650 thousand votes, while with Mr. Berisha 480 thousand votes were received ," declared Shehi.

He emphasized that these figures show that the positive energy and growth within the opposition are no longer found in the traditional structures of the DP, but in the new groupings and alternatives that are trying to be built.

According to Shehi, if the Democratic Party were able to win the political battle alone, it would not need allies or other opposition forces. " If the DP is in control, they will take this job into their own hands. There is no need for us ," he said.

Analyzing the political situation, Shehi also focused on the opposition's impasse in the face of a government that, according to him, is among the most corrupt the country has ever had, but which nevertheless continues to remain in power.

" Why, instead of moving forward, are we going backwards? No government goes away on its own. We must create conditions for the opposition to get the most out of what I believe is a large opposition base, but which is not represented today ," said Shehi.

He added that the DP represents only a part of this electorate, while the rest is looking for new voices and different political alternatives. According to him, this is where the hope for a new dynamic within the opposition front lies.

" There are new groups, they are growing. Maybe others will emerge. Here I see hope, in those who think differently and are confronting. I believe that a part of the citizens will follow them ," concluded Shehi.
