Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the protest organized yesterday by the Democratic Party.
There were numerous tensions and incidents at yesterday's protest, where the police responded to protesters' Molotov cocktails with tear gas and pressurized water.
Rama has mocked the opposition protesters by describing them as paid thugs. Meanwhile, he has called DP leader Sali Berisha a 'misguided old man'.
The protest produced clashes as soon as the Democratic leader, Sali Berisha, finished his speech on the podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, when a group of protesters threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks towards the building. Within seconds, the police responded by firing tear gas, which was initially followed by the dispersal of the protesters and then their relocation to the Assembly headquarters, on George W. Bush Street, where parliamentary sessions are held.
This was also where the most violent clashes took place, with protesters throwing stones and umbrellas at police cordons positioned at the entrance to the Parliament, while police fired tear gas and water cannons in response. Several protesters were detained, including a 10-year-old boy who was officially considered "dangerous" by the police.
The opposition leveled numerous accusations against the police, following the arrests of protesters and the violence against them.
But the Prime Minister seems not to have been concerned by the police's behavior, including towards a minor, and has only wished a speedy recovery to the police officers injured during the protest.
Police say that 11 police officers were injured as a result of violent actions by protesters, while no figure is given on how many citizens were injured or damaged as a result of the gas and pressurized water.
The scenes produced in Tirana by yesterday's protest are no stronger than the protests organized in European capitals, but the Prime Minister has nevertheless rushed to label those who threw Molotov cocktails as paramilitaries and paid mercenaries.
"There are protesters in Europe, anarchists, ecologists, right-wing or left-wing extremists, students, anti-globalists, hooligan fans, all sorts of groups that take to the streets for their own reasons, mask themselves, arm themselves with Molotov cocktails and smash and burn, injuring police officers and destroying property...
But since the time of the notorious parties of 100 years ago in Germany and Italy, there has been only one parliamentary party in Europe that has had in its program of activity, as an integral part of its existence since its birth, the exercise of violence, the destruction of property, the attack on institutional buildings, even on its own building, the mobilization of paramilitaries, who until yesterday were the spiritual leader's squad, but are now simply mercenaries recruited with money from neighborhood thugs, who wear masks or hide their faces behind signs to finish the job by throwing Molotov cocktails without being identified by the cameras!
Now these protests, with the mess they create on the boulevard, resemble the street urchins of the deranged old man who organizes them...
"Unstoppable degeneration and inconsolable despair! Farewell to the police officers who were injured and hurt by this blind kennel," Rama writes.

Prandaj mos u përkul përballë një grupi njerzish që me fjalorin e tyre përfaqësojnë negativen dhe të keqen. Këto janë mosmirnjohës dhe dashakeqës të vetë kombit, dashakeqës të popullit të tyre. A i harruan këto fatkeqsitë e mëdha që ka përjetuar ky popull kur Berisha drejtonte vendin ?!!! Në 97 - ën u shkatërrua shteti, u armatos popullsia civile dhe u hodh në sulm veriu kundër jugut, u mbytën në detë 128 persona, u bë grusht shteti në 98 - ën shpërtheu gërdeci si bombat e Hiroshimës , e të tjera. Kush shkel rregullat e protestës ligjërisht arrestohet. Populli të ka votuar. Ne duam të jemi pjesë e BE - s me të drejta të plota. Këtë e realizon vetëm PS-ja me ty në krye. Vazhdo i papërkulur në rrugën tënde për realizimin e kësaj ëndrre të popullit shqiptar.
