From Soros to the Clintons: How Edi Rama dismantled Veliaj's network and returned to the big international game

Approached in politics by George Soros and then challenged by Veliaj with Alex's blessing, Rama turned the crisis into an advantage, preparing the arrest of his rival and becoming the "brother-in-law" of the Clinton-Soros alliance to regain American support.

To understand the internal movements in an Albanian political group, especially in phases of crisis or transition, one must always look at the international context that nourishes or controls it. In Albania, as in many Balkan countries, the establishment and overthrow of leaders does not occur in a vacuum. Behind every rise to power, there has always been a chancellor who supported it, and behind every abrupt departure, with scandals or arrests, there has been the silent hand of some great power.

The history of leaders in the region is similar: Sali Berisha came to power with American support and was overthrown by them, not once, but twice. Nikola Gruevski, another favorite of the West for years, was overthrown and declared undesirable by the US and Germany, only to take refuge with Viktor Orbán.

Milo Djukanovic, carefully kept by the West for three decades, was thrown out when he crossed the red line of tolerance.

Ilir Meta, once favored by the Americans, ended up on the list of undesirables. Meanwhile, Albin Kurti came to power with direct support from Berlin, in a process parallel to the arrest of Hashim Thaçi and the entire KLA leadership by international structures, pushed by American Democrats and Chancellor Merkel.

In Serbia, the scheme is even more severe: Slobodan Milosevic was overthrown by the West, arrested by Zoran Djindjic, supported by the US and the EU, and then Djindjic was assassinated by Russian structures, through infiltration of his escort.

Edi Rama is not outside this cycle either. He did not enter politics by chance, but was introduced at the insistence of George Soros, through Fatos Nano, who was forced to include him in the cabinet after severe pressures for corruption in 1998.

Rama was the first head of the Soros Foundation in Albania, and through this position he created his own political and lobbying network, which helped him climb step by step.

Upon entering politics as mayor of Tirana, Rama was the first to hire international advisors, including names close to Tony Blair, as well as unidentified figures, including a mysterious Jewish-American, dressed as an Orthodox rabbi, who accompanied him in the field.

In every campaign, Rama has had strong international lobbying and American advisors, while his connection with George Soros and then with Alex Soros has been the axis of the international strategy that has sustained him for many years. His current wife, Linda Rama, has also had direct ties with Soros, whom he met on the board of the “Open Society” in Tirana.

But over the years, George Soros began to build a backup plan: Erion Veliaj. Veliaj was close to Rama since the “Mjaft!” protests for the overthrow of Fatos Nano, and then entered the SP with the direct support of Soros, projected as the American candidate for Tirana. In 2015, Rama openly told Ilir Meta: “This candidacy came to us from across the ocean.”

Over the years, Veliaj became increasingly close to Alex Soros, a relationship that caused clear dissatisfaction in the prime minister. Alexi frequented Veliaj more than Rama, and Rama saw this “density” as an alarm signal. The media close to Edit began to attack Veliaj for the “propaganda videos”, while he was not at the scene. This was not just satire, it was an internal struggle for control of the international lobby.

The climax was reached in February 2024, when during Antony Blinken's visit to Tirana, apart from Rama, the only politician he met was Erion Veliaj at Piramida, in the presence of Alex Soros. This shocked Rama, who was privately informed by Blinken himself that he should begin preparing to leave the leadership of the government and the Socialist Party.

Rama got the message. He started talking about international positions, like NATO and the EU, to fuel the idea that he would leave on his own. But quietly, he prepared the counterattack. Behind the scenes, he pulled out Nesti Angoni, a loyal and invisible man, and gave him the task of preparing the “Veliaj dossier.”

In February 2025, Erion Veliaj was arrested in his office, according to a scenario built a year earlier, following a report by Nesti Angoni to SPAK.

Meanwhile, during the Afghan crisis, Rama brought Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton's former right-hand woman, into his orbit. Through her, he took several Afghan women to Albania and received an award from Hillary's organization, Vital Voices. At that moment, Rama made one of his most refined moves: he brought Abedin together with Alex Soros, two powerful figures in the world of the Democratic lobby. It is said that he himself was the "matchmaker" of their relationship, which was sealed on July 4, 2024, on Rama's birthday in Tirana, with the participation of Bill Clinton and the young couple.

At Alex and Huma's wedding in New York, Rama was the main "brother-in-law," with a special speech as the "bringer of the Clinton-Soros families." This new, unexpected connection placed Rama once again in a strong international position, temporarily neutralizing Veliaj's rapprochement with Alex.

While Obama and his lobbyists were absent from the party, Biden's group was represented by Kamala Harris, while Yuri Kim, Blinken's closest aide, was reportedly involved in this entire new setup.

Meanwhile, Veliaj had long since disappeared from Alex Soros' orbit. After his arrest, he received no support, no sign of solidarity. Edi Rama had completely isolated him and had begun a silent purge of the "Open Society" network in Albania, to eliminate any element that could have been a previous connection to Erion Veliaj and to maintain his absolute control over the international left-wing lobby./ Pamphlet
